The date of Bengali New Year is set in accordance with the lunisolar Bengali calendar as the first day of its first month called Baishakh. It usually falls on or about 14th April according to the Gregorian calendar. Pohela Boishakh is mainly a harvest festival when farmers offer prayers and extend gratitude to God for the successful harvest of crops. They seek blessings of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi for a happy and prosperous year ahead.
